Abstract

Salem Jubran is considered one of the four sides of the square of 'resistance poetry' in the middle of the 20th century. By 1975, Jubran had written three collections of poetry, and his fourth one Sifr al-Khuruj / Book of Exodus was published posthumously in the collection of The Complete Works of Salem Jubran, which was also published posthumously. What characterizes Jubran's poetry is the simplicity of the structure of the poetic phrase and his interest in the details of the rural scene, which makes his message reach the reader's mind and heart without a medium to interpret the poem. In addition, the poet is characterized by his skill in creating the Gleam Poem, or the Very Short Poem which is an intensive short one. In my view, this intensity contributed to the artistic beauty of the poems. To achieve that beauty, Jubran depended on the style of 'vocation', 'similes' and 'metaphors'. Another feature that characterizes Jubran's poetry is his observation of the poetic image with a soft silent cadence that is close to prose, and this softness enabled him to introduce the discourse of the protesting poet without extreme excitement or tendency towards highly emotional rhythm, through which he was able to balance between the 'mind' and the 'heart', which we rarely find in the poetry of resistance before the seventies. Jubran is one of the poets who integrated what is external o the text with what is internal because he grew up as a member of the Communist Party, and he was involved in ideological issues there. Therefore, his poetry was an expression of the feelings of the oppressed classes in a simultaneous mixture of transparency and beauty
