Abstract
This study looks into the hidden references behind the rhythmic structure of the poem “Kafrābīl” by Ḥabīb al-Zuȳūdī. More specifically, it examines the mental spaces of the recipient which are formed by the emergence of sequential questions. This is based on the hypothesis that the regularity of the rhythm is structured in harmony with the semantic purposes or requirements of the poem. The study reveals that this proportionality is manifested through the gradual dismantling of each rhythmic harmonies, both regular and irregular, according to what the context or the form requires. Despite the semantics of this poem that were sufficiently rhythmic, this study has given little attention to the rhythm that performs an aesthetic function and sided more with context that helped direct the meaning and highlight the semantic relationship formed through rhythm. This bias is consistent with the context that was paved by the title of the study.
