Abstract
This study deals with the educational views of Badr al-Dīn Ibn Jamāʿa (d. 733 AH/1332 CE) and other scholars about the concept of Islamic knowledge and its merits to provide knowledge (ʿilm) to the learners (students). In particular, this research focuses on educational leadership in Islam, which is represented by the teacher/ the scholar (‘ālim/sheikh), his etiquette, how he deals with himself and with students, and the optimal means and methods of teaching that he uses throughout his work to achieve the desired educational goals. This research also aims to highlight the notion of educational leadership in Islam through the personality of Ibn Jamāʿa and his biography, as mentioned in Islamic history resources, and then through his perspective, as documented in his book “Tadhkirat al-Sāmiʿ wal-Mutakallim fī Adab al-ʿĀlim wal-Mutaʿallim”. All that with the hope of contributing to drawing a picture of the basic rules of teaching as a profession, which educational institutions have a goal to follow in the right and proper manner, and to benefit from the opinions of former Islamic educational scholars such as Ibn Jamāʿa and others.
