Abstract
This study explores a certain type of Palestinian manual folk art in the contemporary Palestinian cities due to the significant role that the traditional and national folk-art plays in studying various aspects of the realistic Palestinian heritage.
Since manual folk art is an essential element in studying any heritage, the study is divided into two main sections. The first part examines the folk art of embroidery sewed on the female Palestinian traditional dresses that are used for aesthetic purpose among other purposes. This artistic embroidery is designed and sewed by women and is transmitted from one generation to another. This can assist in recognizing where the dress is embroidered and what city the dress comes from. The second part of the study focuses on revealing the indication and meaning of the different embroidery forms sewed on the traditional Palestinian dresses.
The study takes embroidery as a traditional pattern of folk art to investigate the structure of the contemporary Palestinian cities by analyzing the symbols and implications of the embroidery shapes found on different female dresses.
The results of the study led to the conclusion that some embroidery shapes sewed on the female Palestinian dresses represent their hope of return; the embroidery units were also found to reflect the Palestinian culture and history
