Abstract
The present research examined the way in which female principal leadership crystallizes processes aimed at empowering female middle leaders in specific cultural, social and political contexts. The research methodology is a case study of a female middle-school principal from the north of Israel. The research tools included in-depth interviews with the principal and with the schools’ middle-leadership staff (all women), a focus group with schoolteachers who are not middle leaders and school website observation.
The interview results show that female school principals empower female middle leaders in three dimensions: personal, as a team leader, and as part of the school’s organizational setting. These results are also illustrated in the interviews with the middle leaders. This case study constitutes the ground for future research on middle leaders in general and female middle leadership in particular.
