Abstract
“Fairness in the Predecessors’ quarrel” by Tashkibri Zada is one of the treatises that was singled to inquire some of the controversial issues and dilemmas in the science of rhetoric that was debated by the great masters of inquirers such as Sa’d al-Din al-Tafatazani, the master al-Jurjani, Almawla Lutfi and Almawla Ethari. He devoted the treatise to inquire the controversy between al-Tafatazani and al-Jurjani concerning the combination of dependent metaphor and representative metaphor and their lack of. He talked about the debate that occurred between them on this issue and dealt with the dependent metaphor in the first part and the representative metaphor in the second. He then summarized the controversy between the two masters; al-Jurjani claims that abovementioned metaphors cannot be combined on the ground that the simplex and complex cannot be combined in one metaphor. However, al-Tafatazani argues for the combination between them, since the two aspects of the representative simile as the aspects of the dependent metaphor. Tashkibri Zadah verified the position of al-Tafatazani and provided some evidence for it and then suggested some standard rules at the end accompanied by some examples and applications from verses in the Quran
