Abstract
The researcher in the poetic experience of Mahmoud Darwish throughout his creative march finds that it went through many changes related to the circumstances through which the poet passed on the two levels: the private level and the general level. On the private level, Darwish is a human being before he is a poet, whereby changes which are related to age, moving, travel, knowledge and culture occur in his private life. As for the general level, Darwish witnessed several changes related to the Palestinian question and the human and worldly issues. There is no doubt that this has an influence on his life which is reflected in his creativity and his art. Hence, it is natural that the researcher senses in Darwish’s experience this effect on his view of life, existence and poetry. Accordingly, the one who follows his creative works in general since his collection of poetry entitled “Why Did You Leave the Horse Alone” which was issued in its first edition by Riyad Al-Rayyis, Publishing House in Beirut in 1995 A.D. finds that there is a change in Darwish’s view of many issues which are related to existence. He also finds that there are new elements of the identity by which he presents himself. Accordingly, the researcher sees that language is one of these elements which Darwish was careful to present himself through. In his last phase, he appeared to be the owner of a linguistic project which he was careful to express. Therefore, this research aims at studying the language in the poetry of Darwish as being an address for his new identity.
