Abstract
The current study aims to examine the attitudes and practices of Arab-Palestinian
kindergarten teachers regarding the development of listening skills among
kindergarten children by looking at the degree and level of application of listening
skills. The study used a quantitative approach based on a questionnaire completed
by 354 Arab-Palestinian kindergarten teachers in Israel who teach children aged 5-
6 years. The findings reveal that the attitudes of kindergarten teachers towards the
importance of fostering listening skills among children and working to develop
them were positive. Indeed, most teachers have shown that listening skills are
pivotal to developing children’s linguistic skills and that they are important to
prepare children for school. That is, listening skills are critical for children’s
linguistic, social, emotional, and psychological development. Despite the positive
attitudes of the teachers, the findings also demonstrate that the degree and level of
application of listening skills among the kindergarten children were relatively low.
