Abstract
This study aims to shed light on Islamic children literature in regard to its development, origin and characteristics through the viewing of the various sources dealing with the issue, and through reading and surveying various texts on the subject, while conducting a statistical study on a sample of such literature.
The first part of the study reviews Islamic literature, its definition, origin and major characteristics. It also deals with problems related with the concept “Islamic children Literature” itself, relating to its springs, and styles of presenting it.
After determining the theoretical concepts in this literature, its sources and goals, we have conducted a statistical study of a sample of Islamic children literature, through which we have examined the issue of artistic direction, contents and the way in which those books fit the various stages of childhood. We have discovered that many of these books don not meet the needs of the child or his/her mental and emotional abilities, although some of the books represent true attempts to present Islamic children literature which meets the literary and scientific requirements of children literature
