Abstract

The public medicine and magic are a universal phenomena which exist in every society. It does exist in the Arab society in Israel in spite of the severe opposition of Islam. On the basis of the Islamic instructions and the prophet sayings, Moslims are totally prohibited to deal with such unacceptable deeds. The question is why? The research points out to several factors which put the blame on the Western medicine which is not prepared to understand the need for cultural adaptations to medicine. This situation would lead to a breakdown in the Doctor-Patient-community relationship. We should differentiate between three types of diseases: Organic – psychological and spiritual.

The spiritual one is the main cause for addressing magicians since the modern Western medicine doesn’t rocognize the existence of gohsts.

People from all different kinds of social classes prefere to address this type of medicine such as: two genders, different ages, different education and different profession.
