Science Fiction in Science Textbook for Four and Five Grade in Palestine

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the reality of science fiction contained in science
textbooks for grades four and five of the primary stage of basic education in
Palestine. The sample of study is the population itself and consist of seventeen unit
of study scheduled to be taught in both books during the school year.
The units in science books have been analyzed in a content analysis, since it is a
tool with appropriate scientific validity and reliability which help us to achieve the
research goals and objectives. The researcher analyzed the stories of science
fiction, contained in through science textbook of general science for grades four
and five primary P1 & P2 and the re-analysis a week later, and showed that the
proportion of agreement was 97%. Two referees also analyzed the science fiction
contained in science textbooks in general science for grades four and five primary
P1 & P2, where the percentage agreement was 95% which was taken into account.
The results of this study showed that science fiction was not available through
science textbooks in general science for grades four and five primary P1 & P2.
The results showed that science fiction should be made part of the science
curriculum for grades four and five primary P1 & P2.
