Teachers' Perception of their Principals' Roles as Instructional Leaders in Jerusalem Schools

Abstract

study aimed at exploring the extent of instructional leadership principals in
Jerusalem schools show as perceived by teachers. The population of study
consisted of all teachers in schools in the city of Jerusalem, under the authority of
Palestinian Authority and Israeli occupying authority, at the academic year 2009-
2010. The study sample consisted of 280 teachers selected randomly. The
researchers used a questionnaire to measure the extent of instructional leadership
principals in Jerusalem schools show as perceived by teachers. Data was analyzed
using (SPSS). The study revealed that teachers' perception of their principals' roles
as instructional leaders in Jerusalem schools is high, with average of (4.09). Also,
the results revealed that significant statistical differences were found as far as
gender is concerned. However, there are no significant statistical differences, at (α≤0.05), between the teachers' perception of their principals' roles as instructional
leaders and qualification, supervised authority and educational stage. The study
introduced some recommendations based on its results.
