Political Torture Tools in the Umayyad Period Literature

Abstract
The present research attempts to gain insight into the nature of torture tools and related
styles in the Umayyad period, through the sayings and the poems which are attributed to
that period. Due to political disputes that were imposed by the nature of that period, there
were those who crafted in the styles of torture with opponents, and might deviate from
normalcy.
The aim of the present research is not to highlight the shortcomings of that period, but
rather to trace a historical trait nobody can deny. The researcher has employed in his study
the analytical descriptive method in studying texts and related discussion.
